Join the Sanford Children's Specialty Clinic Pediatric Surgery & Trauma Team as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with Acute Care Certification. This provider would join a team of APPs who provide comprehensive care to pediatric surgical and trauma patients across both outpatient and inpatient settings, while also being an active participant in the pediatric vascular access team. This role encompasses caring for children in the NICU, PICU, and pediatric units. Responsibilities include evaluating and managing patients in clinic through an autonomous practice; co-managing pediatric surgery and trauma patients in the hospital, and participating in on-call coverage. Job Summary
The Pediatric Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents undergoing surgical evaluation and treatment. The NP works in collaboration with pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, aiming to optimize surgical outcomes and support families. Conduct thorough assessments including medical and surgical histories, and physical exams tailored to pediatric patients.
Coordinate and interpret diagnostic tests such as labs, imaging, and specialized pediatric studies.
Assist in surgical planning and participate in multidisciplinary pediatric care conferences.
Manage preoperative preparation including patient and family education, consent processes, and risk assessments.
Provide postoperative care including pain management, wound care, monitoring for complications, and discharge planning.
Monitor patients in inpatient, outpatient, and critical care pediatric settings.
Collaborate with pediatric specialists, nutritionists, child life specialists, and social workers.
Provide family-centered education and psychosocial support.
Document clinical care accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records
This position also provides on-call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Qualifications
Completion of a master's, postmaster's, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
If Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
Experience in pediatric surgery, pediatric acute care, or related fields preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
National board certification as a Pediatric Acute Care (CPNP-AC), Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP-C), Pediatric Primary Care (CPNP-PC) or (PPCNP-BC)
Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.

This role encompasses caring for children in the NICU, PICU, and on the Pediatric Floors. Responsibilities include evaluating and managing patients in clinic through an autonomous practice; rounding on inpatient general surgical patients and seeing inpatient consults.
